What is Partners In Training?

Partners In Training is an employment and training partnership between The Kenny Family Foundation, Wakefern Food Corp. and our social service partner, Goodwill for people who are currently on financial assistance or unemployed. The goal of this program is to transition these individuals into jobs at ShopRite and other retailers. Training takes place in a classroom within a miniature Shoprite store built on the premises of the Goodwill and transitions into actual stores for real life training.

With over 90 years of service to their community, the Goodwill provides education, job training and employment services that prepare disadvantaged and disabled individuals for competitive employment.

Recognition From CARF

Commission for Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) recognized the partnership between Goodwill, The Kenny Family, and ShopRite/Wakefern for the following:

  • ShopRite Cashier Training Program

  • Family Strengthening Initiative

  • Classroom / Training Center

Continuous Quality Improvement

2010

  • Program participants engage in on-site internships at the designated store location where they will be working
  • Participants give back to their community through 6 hours of service

2011

  • ShopRite implemented pre-employment assessments in customer service and ethics
  • ShopRite implemented pre-employment drug screening for all program participants

2012-2015

  • Enhanced internship process to include instructor visits and extended on-site practical store experience Follow-up includes feedback, questions, concerns, and additional training, if necessary, at Goodwill
  • Program will be extended to five weeks (November) to include a nationally recognized certification in customer service from the National Retail Federation
  • Technology upgrades to the ShopRite classroom at the Goodwill Center
