Bernard F. Kenny

For many years, Mr. Kenny was the Pathmark Vice President, overseeing operations in its Southern Division which included South Jersey, Pennsylvania and Delaware.  In 1994, Mr. Kenny was approached by senior management from Wakefern Food Corporation and offered the opportunity to purchase two ShopRite supermarkets in Delaware.  Wakefern was seeking to strengthen its southern flank and recognized that when it came to supermarket operations Mr. Kenny was among the best.

Bernie formed Delaware Supermarkets, Inc., acquired the Stanton and Concord Pike ShopRites and entered into an agreement with Wakefern to manage the Newark ShopRite which remained under Wakefern’s ownership.  The competition trembled as Mr. Kenny’s ShopRites began to capture an ever increasing share of the market and win over the loyalty of the people of Delaware with superbly operated markets and commitment to the community. Wakefern rewarded his success by selling him the Newark ShopRite in 2002 and later approving his plan to construct an all new world class ShopRite in Wilmington which, since its opening in December 2008, has grown to a position of market dominance in Wilmington.

Mr. Kenny’s success grows from his vast experience and knowledge of his business.  During his career, he has availed himself of every opportunity to advance his education at an array of universities.  He studied management, leadership and corporate finance at Harvard and took industry specific career development programs offered through Cornell.  Quite simply, when it comes to supermarket operations and management, he has the skill to deliver on his corporate mission statement which is, “To make ShopRite the premier place at which to work and shop in the state of Delaware.”

Mr. Kenny has developed and trained a senior management team to deliver on his corporate mission and ensure the continued growth and success of Delaware Supermarkets, Inc. in the years to come. Included below is a brief biographical sketch of the members of his executive staff.  Additional information can be provided if requested
