About four years ago, our partnership with the Delaware Humane Association started to bloom and we are proud to see the growth that has transpired. The Kenny Family Foundation has taken part in many of the Delaware Humane Association’s events, through event sponsorship and active participation, but our biggest source of pride within this partnership comes from supporting a worthy organization invested in the well-being of homeless animals and its’ dedication to improving these animals’ lives.

The DHA is a nonprofit, no kill animal care and adoption center rooted in the State of Delaware. Their work expands beyond providing temporary shelter for animals, with a multitude of programs offered such as: affordable spay/neutering services, low cost vaccination clinics, dog training courses, extensive care facilities, pet food pantry for struggling families, and specific curated programs aiding pet owners – such as Pets for Patriots, a wonderful nationwide network, placing shelter pets into loving homes with US veterans.

How to Get Involved with the Delaware Humane Association

Adopting an animal yields such wonderful benefits, for both the pet and the owner, but not everyone is able to adopt a pet.  There are many ways to help, most importantly, by getting involved.  Since the Delaware Humane Association relies solely on funding through community support – volunteers, private donations, grants, and fundraising – getting involved is a great way to interact with the animals while still helping the organization. The DHA’s upcoming Rubber Duck Race is a great place to start, an event completely different than any other event in Wilmington.

Duck_Race_header_for_eQuackFor a second year, The Delaware Humane Association is presenting their Annual Rubber Duck Race, raising money to continue their mission of helping homeless companion animals.  Although the DHA hosts many events, their Annual Rubber Duck Race is one of the most entertaining of them all and an inspiration to those who cannot adopt a dog or cat.  Instead, for one day, everyone “adopts” a duck to race down the Christina River, with the chance at the grand prizes awarded to the top four winning ducks.  This year, the top winners will be awarded: $2,500 cash prize, 4 one-day passes to Disney World and a week at the Sheraton Vistana Resort, $1,000 ShopRite gift card, or $300 gift card to local restaurants.

It truly is a sight to see, 10,000 ducks floating down the Christina River.  And if one duck can feed a dog or cat for a day, think about what 10,000 ducks could do!  Our foundation has enjoyed many of the Delaware Humane Association’s events, but the Annual Rubber Duck Race is by far, our favorite.
