What kind of donation can I receive?

The Kenny Family Foundation developed Active Partners, a micro grant program, to address requests from organizations for a small donation.   These donations are provided in the form of ShopRite gift cards to utilize as needed. The average donation is $100.00.

Are there any specific rules?

We will not accept applications for or from:

  • Capital or annual campaigns
  • Third party fundraising organizations
  • Teams or groups for larger organizations (we often donate directly to this organization)
  • Corporate requests or donations
  • Endowment funds
  • Individual causes or online campaigns for personal fundraising
  • Multiple-year donations
  • Requests for political causes or campaigns

ShopRites of Delaware does not allow:

  • Fundraising or tagging inside or outside the ShopRite stores
  • Sales of goods or services within the ShopRite stores

Who is eligible for a KFF donation?

We will review one donation application per year from 501c(3) and non-profit organizations and charities within New Castle County completed by the main contact of the organization with the IRS documents and letter of request.

Requests require three weeks for review after submission.

Who is not eligible for a KFF donation?

We will not accept applications for or from:
• Capital or Annual campaigns for Cash
• Third party fundraising organizations
• Teams or groups for larger organizations (we donate directly to organization)
• Corporate requests or donations
• Endowment funds
• Individual causes or online campaigns for personal fundraising
• Multiple-year donations
• Political causes or campaigns
• Organizations without 501c3 IRS legitimacy

I would like to receive gift cards?

The Kenny Family Foundation developed Active Partners (link to Active partners), a micro grant program, to address requests from organizations for a small donation. These donations are provided in the form of ShopRite gift cards to utilize as needed. The average donation is $100.00. We sponsor charities, organizations and their events with in-kind donations. If you are selling tickets or sponsorships to an event we prefer to purchase our tickets or sponsorship with gift cards. This is because the Kenny Family ShopRites donates 5% of the cost of these cards, the majority of their profits, back to KFF with every card we purchase. Gift cards are a win-win for everyone.

I am seeking a cash donation.

If you are asking for a cash donation please make your intentions clear and explain why you would not use the gift cards. We will only fulfil requests which fulfill our mission or support our programs. Any cash donation requests over $2500 must also attach an annual report and 990.

Can you give me an example of third party or teams or groups for a larger organization?

Third party groups or teams raise money independently for an organization. We give directly to organizations.
Example: Jill wants to raise money for her team for Relay for Life for the Cancer Society. Jill is declined because this is a third party fundraiser and we already donate directly for this event.
KFF is the exclusive provider of water for the American Cancer Society Hydration Stations for all Relay for Life events in the Delaware County.

How do I apply for a donation?

The Kenny Family Foundation has a web-based application process for donation requests. This web-based application is simple to use and will save your organization valuable time.

We ask all Active Partners and requestors to register and complete your application online. You will be able to log into your account at any time to view our partnership with your organization, communication, history and the status of any pending requests. Documents uploaded and organization information will be saved for a subsequent request the following year.

This is a three step process if you have not applied online before.
You must be the representative of your organization to complete a donation request.
After creating your username and password you will have the ability to request a donation.
Emails and updates are sent after your request is submitted.
RECEIVED-You will receive an email from KFF with confirmation of application received.
PENDING- Please log back in and update your application with the requested information.
APPROVED- You will receive the approval with the amount donated and instructions.
DECLINED- You will receive a letter explaining the reason for the decline.

Once registered, you may access your account to complete an application, communication, history and the status of any pending requests. Documents uploaded and organization information will be saved for any subsequent request in the future. If you misplace your user name and passcode you may also ask to renew here.

Upon approval, your donation will be held for 30 days at the Customer Service counter in the Riverfront ShopRite located at Christina Crossing, 501 S Walnut Street, Wilmington, DE 19801. You must show identification sign for the donation release. We will send two reminders for the donation.

I’m having computer issues and cannot submit the online application?

Please ask another member of your organization to complete the request. We are unable to process any requests unless fully completed and submitted. You will receive electronic confirmation of your submission within 48 hours via email.

We will not accept letters, forms, mailers, written inquiries or verbal requests in lieu of the online application. Please do not use any prior paper applications or past letters. Due to the high volume of Active Partner requests we receive, only completed online applications will receive a response.

I registered online but have not received my password?

Please check your spam folder as some email providers may deliver your password there.If you are not finding the password in your spam go HERE and click on Register.

I need to log into the system for an update or a new donation but can’t remember my user information. Can you resend it to me?

How many times may I apply for a donation?

We will accept one application for review per calendar year.

I sent a letter in instead do I still need to fill out an application?

We will not accept letters, forms, mailers, written inquiries or verbal requests in lieu of the online application. Please do not use any prior paper applications or past letters. Due to the high volume of Active Partner requests we receive, only completed online applications will receive a response.

I sent in an application that was incomplete.

Our system will only allow you to submit in an application when it has been completed in full. If we do not have enough information you will receive an email your donation is PENDING until fully completed. Please be certain to complete all fields so we may understand why you seek a partnership and donation.

I don’t have any tax information about my charity?

The application must be completed by the main contact of the organization who will have the IRS documents and tax information

I do not have a letter to attach with my application?

The application must be completed by the main contact of the organization who will have the letterhead in order to write the letter.

My event is this weekend can the process be expedited?

Due to the level of requests our foundation receives, and our small staff, we are unable to assist short notice requests. Requests are queued as received and reviewed for relevance in relation to our mission. We require at least three weeks for a donation to be processed.

Holiday requests

KFF requests all holiday donations be submitted before the first week of November.

I spoke to a manager/staff at ShopRite. Do I have to fill out the online application?

Yes. All donation requests must follow the same procedure as listed above to ensure consistency.

I have a special request for a catered order or special product.

The Kenny Family Foundation is not able to provide these services or coordinate directly. The ShopRite stores have the experts who can provide the services you need.
If approved, you may use your gift card as cash in any of the participating stores to fulfill your special request. Often these requests include floral arrangements, gift baskets, catering, cooking classes, or special large orders of water or fruit for events. Please contact the store with at least one weeks’ notice for large orders to ensure they can accommodate your needs.

Where can I use the ShopRite gift cards?

Your ShopRite gift card may be used at any of the Kenny Family ShopRites in Delaware:
• ShopRite Brandywine Commons on Concord Pike
• ShopRite Christina Crossing in Wilmington, Delaware
• ShopRite Chestnut Hill Newark
• ShopRite Governor’s Square Bear
• ShopRite First State Plaza Stanton
• ShopRite Four Seasons Plaza Glasgow

Please note while these cards are valid at other ShopRite stores we ask you support the Kenny Family ShopRites as they are the stores who support our Foundation and the community.

For your convenience you may also shop online at http://www.shoprite.com and pick up your order or have it delivered. You have the ability to create a specialty catered order, customized to be ready on the date of your choice. If you prefer to shop in person you may stop by a store and speak to the department manager in the bakery or restaurant.

I am unable to come to your Foundation to pick up the donation.

If a ShopRite gift card has been held under your name at the Riverfront ShopRite at Christina Crossing for a donation, it is only to be given to you as the requester. If you would like to send another person to pick up the card please send the person with a signed letter of authorization or the card will not be released. We will not mail the gift cards or transfer them to another store.

I forgot to pick up my donation/I decided I did not need my donation.

KFF send two reminders to contact your organization over the course of a month via phone and email after your microgrant is processed. If the donation is not picked up within 30 days from the first date of contact we return the card to our stock and reallocate for another organization in need. Your organization may apply after 12 months for a subsequent donation.

The gift cards donated to my organization were stolen/lost.

These gift cards are treated as cash and we are unable to replace them from the Foundation.

If your gift cards are stolen and you have a police report with details, please contact ShopRite immediately with the card numbers and a printed copy of the police report. ShopRite does not guarantee replacement of any stolen gift cards.

I have a question related to ShopRite.

The Kenny Family Foundation does not handle any of the vendors, marketing or trade for ShopRite and cannot provide any assistance regarding ShopRite questions or needs. If you are interested in following one of these channels as a vendor please contact 1-800ShopRite.

We would like to tag/sell product/collect money outside a Kenny Family ShopRite store.

The Kenny Family Foundation does not handle any of the vendors, marketing or trade for ShopRite and cannot provide any assistance regarding ShopRite questions or needs.
